WebJan 16, 2024 · In 2024, 52% of Denver voters approved an initiative requiring all new buildings with more than 25,000 square feet of floor space to install rooftop vegetation and solar panels to help mitigate the “heat island effect” caused by heat-absorbing surfaces like streets and traditional tar-covered roofing materials. WebThe Urban Forest Initiative is funded in majority by the City and County of Denver through the Parks Legacy fund. Supplemental financial support comes from our partners at the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District, and generous donors Bank of America, FirstBank, and the Zoellner Family Foundation, and downtown property owners.
